R.M. Garcia
I was born and raised in New Jersey, and am the proud son of Puerto Rican parents. My parents moved to New Jersey from Puerto Rico shortly after getting married, I was born about a year later. I have 2 younger siblings, twins, Eric and Erica. Growing up I was a kind child who never asked for much. I didn't ask for anything because my imagination provided me with everything that I would ever need.

My mother always said that of all her children I was the one that gave her the least amount of trouble.
I was considered a dreamer by all of my teachers, but I never thought that label was a bad thing. I was initially very shy until I got older and stopped caring what others opinions of me. I realized that I was who I was, and you either liked me or you didn't, simple as that. I have been called weird, quirky, funny and trustworthy, all titles I hold dear.

I wrote the short story of the Foundlings when I was still in High School and it was not till much later that I fully developed it into a book. Back in the day, I used to also write poetry, but story telling became my true love.

After High School, I moved to Florida and went to college. I dabbled in varied professions over the next several years. I worked in jobs such as Hotel Manager, Accountant, Insurance Agent, Travel Agent, Customer Service Rep, Draftsman, and even a Fry Cook. When I started on the book, I realized that this was my passion, what I was ultimately meant to do.

I loved writing the Foundlings and even if it does not become a best seller, I will continue to write. Publishing my first book led to me meeting my wonderful wife. So God willing and with help of my fans, The Foundlings will make a mark in the literary world. Thank you for reading about me.

Book Blast: Too Much Ado by Tony Angelo

Winner: Goodreads Best Poetry Publications 2011

Praise for "Too Much Ado":
Generally, I am not a big fan of poetry, but Too Much Ado is Tony Angelo at his best. Lyrical, deep, moving. It's not what he says--a lot of poets talk about poverty, race, desperation, humanity, relationships--it's how he says it. He says so much with such a few words. Speaks the harshest of themes in the softest of tones...."--Tammy Ruggles, Amazon.com

Too much ‘Ado’ is a poetry book that tackles some of the major prejudices within the world; this includes race, homosexuality, and children with disabilities. In addition the poem speaks to the heart, reminding us that relationships can be very difficult. For example:

DISGRUNTLED
“I came away from someone that I thought I knew. And if her eyes were any measure then my life would be through.
I’d felt so out of place and I didn’t know why.
It seemed she didn’t recognize me or was I being just too shy?”

A FATHER’S EYES
“I remember standing at the door, peeking out the window, never seeing either of my parents depending on how their career goes.
Those promises that were never kept at a time that would soon be gone.
You sit inside your room and wonder how long must it go on!
Holding one truth within your heart I will never do this to my son…”

Each piece is a simple reminder that while life can be difficult and even debilitating it is better shared together with love and understanding.

Book Blast: The Fire and the Light by Tracy A. Akers

Series: Souls of Aredyrah, Book #1

In the world of Aredyrah, things are not what they seem. An ancient Purge has plunged the island into darkness, isolating its cultures by superstition and fear. Dayn lives in the northernmost region of Kirador and knows nothing of the great city-state of Tearia far to the south. All he knows is the Kiradyns are the only survivors of a god’s fiery wrath, and he looks nothing like them. Meanwhile Ruairi, a prince destined for greatness, resents his Tearian obligations, longing for a life he can never hope to have. But when tragedy takes his beauty as well as his name, he finds himself exiled by the very beliefs he once held dear. Both boys long for acceptance in societies that cling to religious ideals, but when fate throws them together, Dayn and Ruairi discover some unwelcome truths: not only are they bound by blood and prophecy, but the teachings they have been raised on are nothing more than lies. Will they reveal what they have learned, risking their lives and the security of those they love? Or will they keep silent, denying their destinies and the future enlightenment of their world?

Kishaz Reading Corner: Psion by Joan D. Vinge

Disclaimer: I received no compensation from the author or publisher for this honest review.

About the Book

When first published, readers young and old eagerly devoured the tale of a street-hardened survivor named Cat, a half-human, half-alien orphan telepath. Named an ALA Best Book for Young Adults, Cat's story has been continued by Hugo-award winning and international best-selling author Joan D. Vinge with the very popular Catspaw and Dreamfall. Now, 25 years later, this special anniversary edition of Psion contains a new introduction by the author and "Psiren," a story never before included in any trade edition of Psion. This tough, gritty tale of an outsider whose only chance for redemption is as an undercover agent for an interstellar government that by turns punishes and helps him, is as fresh and powerful today as it was in 1982.

Here's what I'm giving it:

Rating: 4 stars

Here's why:

I originally began reading the Cat series by Joan D. Vinge when I was a sophomore in high school. I was instantly hooked by the foul-mouthed, lonely teenager hybrid known as "Cat." From the get-go I was hooked.

At the time, I read the books out of order (I read Catspaw first because the public library in the town where I lived didn't have the first book.)

It wasn't until after I read the third book, Dreamfall, that I learned about book #1 and found a copy through inter-library loan and read it..

Now, several years later, after strolling around my new local library, looking for new authors to read, I spotted, Psion, Catspaw and Dreamfall on the shelf. I snatched all three up and excitedly took them home.

I've now finished re-reading Psion and again, I enjoyed the ride. This book makes me feel so many things that trying to put them in words will not even do it justice.

I would HIGHLY recommend this book to any science fiction fan and to YA readers.

Netgalley & Edelweiss Reading Challenge 2014: January

When I saw this challenge it was one I was glad to take. I decided to go for the Gold challenge (50 Books). All my reviews will be posted on this blog. (I originally was going to post to my secondary blog, Indie Author How-to.)

Here is my first one of the challenge.

Disclaimer: I received no compensation from Netgalley, the author or publisher for this honest review.

About the Book

The last thing dragon shifter Stig Wyvern needs is his dead friend's kid sister showing up on his doorstep, especially since he's just minutes away from entering a mating phase. Sharing his isolated house with the young woman he's desperately lusted after for quite some time is a recipe for disaster.

But Cora Cardenas has nowhere else to go. She's in deep trouble with some really nasty people and Stig is the only one who can protect her. That he's deliciously sexy and makes her tingle with the simplest of smiles is an added bonus.

Cora quickly realizes Stig is hiding something from her. To make matters worse, she's plagued with breathtakingly naughty dreams starring a shadowed lover who bears a startling resemblance to her host. And what the hell is going on in the basement at night?

Stig needs to get Cora out of his house but his inner beast has other ideas. He's found his mate and she's not going anywhere.

Word count: 25,000 words.

Buy the Book

Here's what I'm giving it:

Rating: 3 stars

Here's why:

***I received this book from Netgalley without compensation for an honest review.***

This short novella was a quick read once I settled down and read the book. The scenes were steamy between the two main characters and if you're looking for a hot, quick read, this story is for you.

If you keep in mind that this book is a novella at 128 pages, you will be able to overlook some of the missing explanations for the plot.

I read this book because it has dragons and that are shapeshifters, two of my favorite types of paranormal creatures.

I'm not adverse to reading other offerings by this author.

Recommend? Yes, I would recommend this book to others.

About Me

Where to start? I suppose with the basics.

I'm an Indie Cross-Genre writer of science fiction/fantasy/paranormal romance/YA. I started writing stories and poetry at the age of 8 and haven't stopped yet. I think I've always been a writer, but becoming a published one took a lot of work and dedication.

That didn't happen until after I left my home state of Virginia, and moved to Florida in 2004.

I've learned to not let life's many road blocks and speed bumps throw me to the curb. I can't wait to dive in and continue to share the stories swirling around in my head.
